Digium Acquires VocalCloud

Digium, Inc. has acquired Atlanta, GA-based VocalCloud, a provider of cloud-based VoIP solutions, and has created the subsidiary Digium Cloud Services. The combined products and services will be sold through Digium's channel partners.

The acquisition closed on August 30, 2013. Since the two companies are privately held, the financial details of the transaction are not disclosed.

The newly formed Digium Cloud Services will be offering Digium's hosted PBX Switchvox Cloud, as well as other cloud-based unified communications products and services to be released by the company in the future. Platform delivery solutions for Switchvox can either be hosted or premises-based.

"Digium's acquisition of VocalCloud is part of a focused strategy to position the company within the rapidly growing UC as a Service (UCaaS) market," said Danny Windham, CEO of Digium. "Digium Cloud Services provides the necessary foundation and infrastructure to offer new cloud-based products and services for SMBs, as well as users of the Asterisk open source project. In fact, new developments are already underway."

Talking to CRN, Windham says that the initial success of Switchvox Cloud is the precipitating factor for the acquisition deal with VocalCloud. It can be remembered that VocalCloud partnered with Digium in developing the Switchvox Cloud platform, which is sold by 170 of the estimated 1,400 North American channel partners of Digium.

"We are pleased to join forces with Digium and continue servicing SMB customers in the cloud market," said Stagg Shelton, president of VocalCloud. "It's great to see our track record of performance and reliability as a company now become a key component in the strategy for Digium Cloud Services." (KOM) Link. Link. Link.
