Ex-CEO of Acme Packet Joins Thinking Phone Networks Board of Directors

23 Oct 2013

Andy Ory, the co-founder and CEO of Acme Packet before the company was acquisitioned by Oracle Corporation, has joined the board of directors for cloud service provider, Thinking Phone Networks.

As president and CEO of Acme Packet until it was bought by Oracle for $2.1 billion in March 2013, Ory steered Acme Packet as it developed and marketed session border controllers, multiservice security gateways, and session routing proxies. And before he co-founded Acme Packet, Ory served as founder, CEO, and chairman of Priority Call Management, a firm that created network-based solutions enabling service providers to have enhanced messaging, one-number services, and prepaid calling as part of their offerings.

"Andy Ory is widely recognized as a communications industry visionary," said Steve Kokinos, president and CEO of Thinking Phone Networks. "Andy presided over the first wave of disruption in the communications market. His experience will be critical as we meet the challenges of the next wave of disruption brought about by the cloud, mobility, global workforces, and end user driven IT adoption."

"I am looking forward to working with Steve and the entire Thinking Phone Networks management team to take advantage of the global opportunity in cloud communications," said Andy Ory in a prepared statement. "The legacy communications industry is ripe for change. Companies can no longer support the capital intensive systems they have in place. They need to move to the cloud to address the fundamental ways workforces want to acquire and use technology today - more global, more mobile, more social, and more intuitive."

In early October 2013, Thinking Phone Networks has announced its Series C investment by Bessemer Venture Partners and Advanced Technology Ventures. (KOM) Link.
