WASHINGTON (PRWEB) December 19, 2017

The Wireless Innovation Forum (WInnForum) announced today the selection of CTIA, the association representing the U.S. wireless communications industry, as the manager of the WInnForum’s equipment certification program for Citizen’s Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) Devices (CBSD). Certification of CBSDs is a fundamental step needed for the launch, utilization and commercialization of the CBRS Band. The certification is based on the technology neutral CBRS CBSD Test Specification (WINNF-TS-0122-V1.0.0 available here: http://bit.ly/2oLRs5z), approved today by Forum membership.

Developed by the WInnForum Spectrum Sharing Committee Test and Certification Working Group, the test specification addresses CBSD compliance for both LTE and proprietary devices to WInnForum standards supporting the Commission’s Part 96 rules governing the connection and interaction between the CBSD and the Spectrum Access System (SAS). In addition to the test specification, WInnForum is developing a software test harness to enable automation of the tests. Release 1 software test harness will be available in early 2018 and can be found at:

The official certification process, managed by CTIA, is essential as the industry seeks to meet rapidly growing wireless data demands by facilitating equipment use in through new spectrum options.

“The WInnForum is excited by the opportunity to draw upon CTIA’s extensive experience in managing certification programs to support our members and the CBRS community as a whole in bringing CBSDs to market,” said Lee Pucker, CEO of the Wireless Innovation Forum.

CTIA will build on its service to the industry through the three-year contract. CTIA has a successful track record spanning 26 years in testing devices, batteries, and new technologies in collaboration with members in the ecosystem. Through this program, The WInnForum will work with industry leading test houses to ensure a complete test program is developed and maintained across different test specification releases on an ongoing basis. Training programs will be developed for test labs to ensure the test entity can satisfy the test requirements and ensure quality in the executed tests and reports.

A global public database of WInnForum Approved test labs and authorized CBSD equipment will be maintained by WInnForum (http://www.cbrs.wirelessinnovation.org/approved-vendors). This database will be accessible to both CBSD manufacturers and FCC Approved Test Labs. Through the database, CBSD manufacturers will have the ability to initiate a certification request and select an Approved Test Lab.

The Wireless Innovation Forum provides a singular venue to advance wireless system and spectrum sharing technologies, to educate and influence decision makers at all levels of the wireless value chain, and to drive changes that will address emerging wireless communications requirements through the enhanced value, reduced total life cost of ownership and timely delivery of standardized families of products, technologies, and services.
