8x8 Takes Business Communications Services to Canada

23 Jan 2013

8x8, Inc. announces that it will take its portfolio of cloud-based, enterprise-grade communications solutions and services to Canadian businesses. According to the California-based company that sells via channel partners, this move to the Canadian market is the first among 8x8's series of expansion plans outside of the United States.

8x8's Virtual Office suite for SMBs is available immediately in many provinces in Canada. Virtual Office includes hosted VoIP, contact center, unified communications (UC), and video conferencing services. It is also touted to provide SMBs the choice of extending the aforementioned services to smartphones and tablets for free, thus facilitating a productive mobile workforce.

Rates for Virtual Office - Unlimited Extension, a popular service plan by 8x8, and the company's other offerings are the same for business customers based in Canada and the U.S.

To help prevent inbound callers from spending a lot of money making long-distance calls, business customers can choose local phone numbers in every province, plus virtual numbers from around the world, including Canada and the U.S. According to 8x8, companies that have locations in Canada and the U.S. can now opt to have a dedicated virtual PBX that enables a dialing extension equipped with high-definition audio capability between their international locations - without the requisite per-minute charges that go with it.

8x8's services, delivered from the company's data network centers in the U.S. and Saskatchewan, Canada, are said to be in compliance with applicable Canadian laws, including tax laws and the facility to locate callers who dial 911 - and ability which is said to be considered by numerous SMBs as a vital requirement before they look at VoIP.

"The introduction of 8x8's service in the Canadian market complements a growing surge in the adoption of IP telecommunications for the country," wrote GetVoIP's Michael Roden, with regards to 8x8's expansion outside the United States. "The limits brought about by regulation about a half decade ago have slowly been lifted, as Canada becomes one the fastest growing VoIP industries in the world."

"8x8's cloud communications services are designed to provide the reliability, flexibility and scalability that Canadian companies need," said Bryan Martin, chairman and CEO of 8x8. "More than 30,000 U.S. businesses use 8x8, and this expansion is a major first step toward providing SMBs worldwide with a cost-effective, enterprise-grade way to empower their communications."
