Affordable Virtual Desktops from NEC's DaaS Platform

28 Apr 2013

DaaS provider Desktone and NEC Corporation of America (NEC) have joined in order to distribute cloud-hosted virtual desktops. The improvements to the Desktone Platform means that more cost-effective, full-featured Windows desktops can be distributed to any device, and will therefore meet the demands of enterprises' BYOD calls, as well as remote workforce support.

It is also possible for NEC to broaden the advantages of cloud computing to Windows desktops, and this can be done through security and efficiency. Offering and deploying desktops can be increased by NEC, and will impact everything from the cloud to end user tablets, smartphones, laptops and PCs on demand. There will be no need to invest in expensive and comprehensive on-site infrastructure.

Additionally, the changes and alterations in the workforce, and the growing number of people working from remote locations, means that it is important for NEC to offer customers real-time access to business-essential programs and applications from a vast range of end user devices.

The vice president of managed and cloud services at NEC Corporation of America, Vinod Muthuswamy, said: "We looked at on-site VDI as a possibility, but found the difficulty and expense of installing and maintaining hardware and software was too great. NEC's cloud-hosted virtual desktops make it easy for employees to access their complete Windows desktops from any device at any time, helping our business improve productivity while reducing total cost of ownership."

The DaaS provision from NEC will be on offer from Q3 of this year. (CY) Link
