Biscotti Reaches Out and Touches the PSTN

16 Jan 2013

At the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the HD video calling service provider Biscotti Inc. showed the new Biscotti XS in their line of HDTV-based video calling appliances and their MyBiscotti services. The MyBiscotti service now includes video mail, PSTN interoperability, and multiparty calling.

According to Biscotti's CEO and founder, Dr. Matthew B. Shoemake, "Biscotti is reinventing the video calling experience." He continues by stating that "video calling should be just as simple as voice calling. The Biscotti and MyBiscotti Cloud Services we are demonstrating at CES provide our customers with a convenient and comfortable video calling experience, allowing our customers to make and receive video calls as easily as picking up the phone or sending a text."

The new Biscotti XS now allows users to call through a connected TV using Biscotti TV Cams. In addition, users can also call on any computer, tablet, or smartphone enabled with the Android Talk App or Google Video Chat. This appliance also offers connectivity through Wi-Fi, HDMI, or Ethernet for calling devices, as well as a multiport power adapter and an external 3.5mm audio jack to be used with remote microphones. And finally, there is even a remote control feature offering a complete QWERTY keyboard for simplified data entry, using the search function, and navigation.

Another much-improved feature of the Biscotti XS is the universal mount that swivels 330 degrees and can be mounted on any surface, wall, ceiling, or TV.

To help manage more than one Biscotti, the MyBiscotti Cloud Services portfolio allows users to access live images from several Biscotti while also recording and sharing time-lapse videos.

Other up-and-coming features consist of multiparty calling, video mail, and the interoperability of SIP and PSTN.

Regarding video mail, Biscotti is able to record the incoming video and then store it in the cloud by using the MyBiscotti Cloud Services. It can also record video mail from smartphones, PCs, tablets, or other Biscotti. From there, the video mail is viewable on all Web browsers through activating MyBiscotti or through email alerts.

In order to take advantage of their SIP infrastructure, Biscotti also plans to interoperate with the public switched telephone network (PSTN) soon. Such interoperability will allow them to send and receive calls from any standard phone numbers, such as mobile and landline phones.

This appliance, set with the price tag of $299, will hit the market in March of this year. (RP) Link
