Digium Releases New IP Phone Systems for SMBs

Digium announces that it has expanded its Switchvox line of unified communications (UC) appliances with the addition of Asterisk-based Switchvox 450 and Switchvox 470, both of which are designed to meet the IP phone system needs of small and midsize businesses (SMBs).

Digium touts the two new additions to have considerably more memory, RAID options, and solid state drives (SSD). Digium also claims that the latest additions to the company's 400 Series come with improved processors. The enhanced capacity of Switchvox 450 and Switchvox 470 allows the UC appliances to support more than double the number of concurrent calls possible with previous models. The company release indicates a 46 percent size reduction, a 37 percent weight reduction, and a 22 percent cut in power consumption.

Targeted at midsized and larger businesses, the Switchvox 450 PBX can support up to 500 users in one platform. It is priced at $9,850. Switchvox 470, on the other hand, is priced at $12,975 and is able to handle up to 600 users in a single platform. According to Digium's press release, Switchvox 470 delivers the highest processing power among the Switchvox line of products.

"Digium is broadening our line of phone systems to address the needs of larger and more complex UC requirements," said Mark Amick, director of product management at Digium, in a prepared statement. "Incorporating all of the award-winning features of Switchvox into two new appliances provides the solutions that our customers and channel partners have requested to address larger applications at the best value for SMB business phone systems."

The Switchvox 400 Series, Digium claims, consists of comprehensive business phone systems that include both VoIP and traditional calling, as well as built-in call queues, CRM integration, detailed reporting, Digium IP phone integration, faxing, integrated conferencing, mobile applications and fixed mobile convergence, one-touch and scheduled recordings, support for video calling, switchboard IVR, and voicemail with email integration. Digium's Asterisk is an open source communications software used by developers to make VoIP communication solutions. (KOM) Link. Link.
