GENBAND and Avaya Collaborate to Expand UC Roadmap

26 Nov 2012

GENBAND and Avaya announced their collaboration to develop a unified communications (UC) roadmap intended to benefit the users of Avaya Server 2100 (CS2100) and SL-100. The collaboration also enables GENBAND and Avaya customers to use the multimedia applications powered by GENBAND's GENiUS platform and Avaya Aura.

With this collaboration, the two companies will ensure the continuity of their existing services with ongoing software enhancements and new technology. The carrier-based support for the customer base using the CS-2100 and SL-100 makes that possible. In addition, the collaboration between the two companies can benefit large institutions looking for continuity in their legacy Nortel voice systems.

Avaya and GENBAND are said to continue delivering SIP-based UC solutions that touch base with all forms of fixed and mobile business communications for carrier-class enterprises in the verticals that include higher education, finance, government, and healthcare.

Avaya Aura is a communications platform that supports UC and contact center solutions for midsized to large enterprises. Avaya's platform extends Communication Manager and facilitates SIP-based session management. Avaya Aura is said to simplify complex networks and lower the costs associated with enterprise communications infrastructure by allowing employees to be connected regardless of location endpoints.

The GENBAND GENiUS platform, on the other hand, is an IP switching and networking platform that supports various IP solutions. Majority of GENBAND's products are offered by way of the GENiUS platform. GENBAND's product line includes local and interconnect call control, session border control, and multimedia and cloud-based applications.

Andy Asava, senior vice-president for enterprise sales at GENBAND, said that integrating GENBAND software with Avaya's CS 2100 would not be a major challenge. Asava explained that the software of the CS 2100, for instance, had a lot in common with GENBAND C20 Converged Softswitch. He pointed out that all that was needed was some application codes from Avaya.

"By joining forces with Avaya, we are able to provide some of the world's most vital institutions with continuity, helping ensure that their existing investments in communications infrastructure will be supported and enhanced through future innovation," said Mark Pugerude, president of Global Sales and Marketing at GENBAND.

"The extension of this relationship will offer customers a unique combination of investment protection and graceful migration to advanced UC services," said Mark Monday, vice president of Product Management, Collaboration Platforms and Endpoints at Avaya. "Our customers can reap the benefits of seamless UC solutions that are based on carrier class platforms and enhance mobility applications and services on any device." (KOM) Link. Link
