Logitech Releases GROUP Video Conferencing Solution

7 Feb 2016

Logitech has announced the release of Logitech GROUP, a new solution for video conferencing. Logitech GROUP is aimed at businesses of all sizes that have conference rooms - from huddle rooms to large rooms, and serves groups of up to 14 people (20 with the extension microphones), enabling organizations to use the same room system configuration for whichever unified communications, web conferencing or video conferencing application a company uses.

Logitech GROUP is the successor to Logitech's ConferenceCam CC3000e. It is intended to improve collaboration between remote and distributed workforces that use certified software applications, such as Microsoft Lync 2013, Cisco Jabber, or Skype for Business. It has enhanced integration with Logitech Collaboration Program members, so as to provide a better experience for video conferencing platforms.

GROUP uses a full-duplex speakerphone to provide clear audio quality to everyone in the meeting, and captures high quality audio through four omnidirectional microphones, acoustic echo, and noise-cancelling technology. Participants within a 20-foot diameter can all be heard properly, or the range can be extended to 28 feet with expansion microphones. Additionally, Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices can connect for audio calls.

For video, GROUP uses 1080p video quality for full HD video. It offers a 90-degree field of view, as well as pan and tilt controls, in order to capture everyone in the room. For close-ups on objects, whiteboards, or speakers, the camera also has 10x lossless HD zoom. For improved bandwidth usage, it has onboard H.264, with scalable video coding that puts video processing within the camera.

According to Blair Pleasant, co-founder of UCStrategies, "Logitech GROUP addresses a gap in the video conferencing space - mid-to-large conference rooms. High-end solutions are expensive and complex, while laptops with cameras don't work for conference room environments, which leaves an opening for a competitively-priced solution." She added, "Logitech is taking a very open approach, and GROUP can work with virtually any video conferencing software, including Vidyo, Zoom, Blue Jeans, Lifesize, Broadsoft and others, which makes it attractive for a range of businesses."

Logitech GROUP will be made available worldwide in March 2016. Currently the price is suggested at $999, with expansion microphones available for $299. Bundles containing GROUP with two expansion microphones will be available in the US for $1249.
