31 Jan 2013

The new IBM SmartCloud Enterprise+ (SCE+) public infrastructure-as-a-service has been released by IBM. The IaaS seeks to offer extensive cloud services to manage enterprise applications.

Countries which will be able to utilize the new cloud service are Japan, Brazil, Canada, France, Australia, the U.S. and Germany, and will be made available in IBM's global network of cloud centres which are situated in these locations. There will be a new cloud centre opening in Barcelona later this year, which will also be able to use the new cloud service.

SAP applications, including SAP Business Suite software and the SAP BusinessObjects will be supported by SCE+, according to IBM.

Providing high service-level agreements, security and reliability along with elasticity and subscription-based pricing, the new cloud service will go further than other IaaS clouds. According to IBM, enterprises can access core applications like ERP, CRM, analytics, social business and mobile computing through the cloud.

IBM SmartCloud Enterprise+ will allow enterprise customers to build foundations to access the cloud without too much difficulty. This will be enabled through strengthening IBM's enterprise architecture, software and hardware.

The development of SCE+ means IBM is able to utilize its expertise as an IT provider sourcing services with over 1,000 clients.

The general manager of IBM SmartCloud Services, Jim Comfort, said: "This is a logical evolution of IBM's sourcing business that gives us an advantage both in our services relationships and the cloud market as we define a new enterprise-grade cloud today. Our clients want sophisticated, economical cloud-based services that provide the same quality and service level as a private, hosted IT environment."

According to IBM, the SCE+ will be able to automate and make standard the provisioning for SAP applications, and will also be accessible as an enterprise-class, platform-as-a-service.
