Oracle Provides New Product Enhancements

21 Sep 2010

In order to improve subscriber experiences for communications service providers, Oracle has announced a variety of new product enhancements. These enhancements, designed to be cost-effective, will affect several of Oracle's Unified Communications products and services, providing a variety of improvements for their customers.

"At this week's Oracle World many things went on such as burying the hatchet with HP over the Mark Hurd controversy," says UCStrategies UC Expert David Yedwab. "For the UC space, Oracle's announcements signify a renewed focus on telecoms, most notably to support Service Providers' delivery of communications services building on both the Sun and Oracle history of massive positions in the backend infrastructure processing for many telcos worldwide. Oracle's position of providing private datacenter, cloud and hybrid architectures positions them well if their focus on telecom sticks and, if they are serious about Enterprise UC, they could become a desktop/apps focused player along with Microsoft and IBM. Let's see how this plays out."

Among the products being enhanced are the Oracle Communications Unified Communications Suite 7.1, formerly the Sun Java System Communications Suite, a scalable and secure messaging and collaboration platform. With the enhancements, Oracle promises improved usability, reliability, and performance.

There is also the Oracle Communications Network Integrity 7.0, which discovers and reconciles information from network devices and other data sources for optimized accuracy, as well as Oracle Communications Rapid Offer Design and Order Delivery Solution, which performs order mapping and central management of order changes, and provides an order-to-activate process integration pack.

Rounding out the enhanced products are the Oracle Communications Converged Application Server 5.0, which is improved to help service providers speed the development of multimedia converged applications, and the Oracle Enterprise Manager Application Management Pack for Billing and Revenue Management, adding new levels of application performance, availability, and control, while automating and simplifying billing lifecycle management.
