Polycom Debuts New Audio Conferencing Solution
Polycom announces SoundStation Connect, a new audio conferencing offering that enables on-the-go users to take a plug-and-play USB device and benefit from Polycom's HD Voice technology designed for computer-based softphones, such as Polycom RealPresence Desktop 2.0, Microsoft Lync, and IBM Sametime.
Polycom claims that its new audio conferencing solution can facilitate clear conversations and is widely interoperable, easily deployable, and portable. SoundStation Connect, priced at $299, will be made available in select countries via Polycom's reseller partners in the second quarter of 2013.
SoundStation Connect is heralded by Polycom as representative of the company's HD Voice technology, which is touted to lessen background noise, echoing effect, and feedback. The microphone's range is said to cover a diameter of over seven feet. In addition, the no-software-driver-needed and plug-and-play USB assembly is portable and compact. SoundStation Connect is also interoperable with any unified communications softphone app on computers supporting USB-powered audio and can be connected directly to the USB port of any desktop or laptop.
"Polycom SoundStation Connect lets customers take the legendary Polycom SoundStation audio conferencing experience anywhere they want to have voice or video meeting on their computer," said Jim Kruger, senior vice president of Product and Solutions Marketing at Polycom, in a prepared statement. "SoundStation Connect is ideal for groups of people in small to midsize rooms such as salespeople and customers in a huddle room, patients and doctors in an office, or creative designers and ad experts in a brainstorm area. Polycom's best-in-class HD audio technology allows all of the meeting participants on the call to hear and be heard, making calls more productive."
