Vidyo Announces Winners of the 2018 Leaders Innovating Telehealth (LIT) Award

20 Dec 2018

HACKENSACK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vidyo, the leader in embedded video technology, today announced the winner of its second annual Leaders Innovating Telehealth (LIT) Award, Rush University Medical Center. Rush was chosen by attendees of the 2018 Vidyo Healthcare Summit.

An integral part of the annual Vidyo Healthcare Summit, the LIT Awards honor Vidyo customers whose dedication has brought about meaningful change in the lives of others. Rush University Medical Center’s Road Home Program exemplifies this charge by providing veterans and their families access to real-time, face-to-face consultations at no cost, for those seeking treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related conditions.

Funded primarily by the 501(c)(3) Wounded Warrior Project, the Road Home Program is committed to helping veterans cope with the invisible wounds of war during and after their transition to civilian life. Nearly 20 million veterans live across the United States, many without adequate access to mental health professionals. Vidyo-enabled telemedicine services provide access to those in need.

“Being able to support veterans who have served and sacrificed so much is truly an honor,” said Dr. Niranjan Karnik of Rush University Medical Center. “Veterans returning from combat deployments and military service are spread out across the entire country, but access to mental health services and trauma-related care should not have boundaries. We are proud to provide veterans with care, no matter their location. We are honored by this recognition from attendees of the Vidyo Healthcare Summit.”

Using the Vidyo platform, the Road Home Program at Rush University Medical Center provides remote services to veterans in rural areas, saving them both time and money by not having to travel to and from a facility while also increasing the likelihood that they will seek out and continue to access care. The benefits of video-enabled mental health services don’t stop there, however, as patients are also provided with confidential counseling, assistance with reintegration, reduced travel, and easy, flexible access to services. Using the Road Home Program, veterans can connect to counselors or clinicians in secure video rooms via desktop or mobile devices with a simple link provided by Rush.

The 2018 LIT Awards saw a record number of submissions, all of which represented significant and incredible achievements, making the selection of the finalists an extremely difficult task. In addition to Rush University Medical Center, the 2018 LIT Award finalists included:

  • North Memorial Health Community Paramedics has enhanced the paramedic-physician relationship by connecting patient, paramedic, and physician via video, helping people who have recently been discharged from an urban hospital. The program is the first in its state to use community paramedics to provide regulatory-compliant transitional care management services and to facilitate a telemedicine visit for people who may not initially be technologically savvy or able.
  • Presence Health’s telemedicine program addresses patients who are at risk for falling. Leveraging APIs in the Vidyo platform, the Remote Sitter program maintains patient safety, reduces fall rates, and more efficiently allocates resources. Since its inception in 2014, the program has logged thousands of hours of monitoring patients at risk for falls without experiencing any patient injuries.

“We congratulate all those who submitted nominations, our finalists, and our audience choice, Rush University Medical Center. Through our work with health systems, hospitals, EHR vendors, and patients, Vidyo is helping to create a telemedicine ecosystem that is evolutionary, interconnected, and frictionless,” said Vidyo CEO, Michael Patsalos-Fox. “Our customers embody Vidyo’s mission to enrich people’s lives by embedding video into moments that truly matter, effortlessly connecting patients and their providers to provide the highest quality of virtual health programs across the care continuum.”
