Vidyo Report Analyzes Video-Enabled App Trends

Vidyo and WebRTC.ventures have released a new report, analyzing the current trends in video communications and video projects. This report, titled “The Rise of Embedded Video Communications: Trends in Video-Enabled Apps,” has found some ongoing trends and data that video communications service providers will want to know to help them better serve customers.

 

The report surveyed 166 Chief Information Officers, Chief Technology Officers, General Managers, Front-end Developers, and Engineering Directors. According to the survey, most respondents who want to embed video projects are using communications platforms-as-a-service (PaaS), with 49 percent saying they plan to start embedded video projects through a communications PaaS in the coming year. 

 

Additionally, around 45 percent of the respondents embed video into telehealth applications, which makes it a top use case not only in healthcare, but overall. Across all industries, respondents embed video into collaboration and online meeting applications about 40 percent of the time, while 35 percent of the respondents use it in contact center workflows, followed by 30 percent who use video for distance learning solutions.

 

However, there are still plenty of respondents who haven’t embedded video into their applications yet. This is primarily due to technical limitations or high costs, as full internal development of video collaboration applications requires significant investments and a hosted global infrastructure. A communications PaaS averts that by offering cloud hosting, which has contributed to its popularity.

 

Furthermore, over half of the respondents report that the network they use isn’t good enough to ensure the video will be high quality. Consequently, companies are prioritizing reliable video experiences over any networks, which is particularly important now that personal devices are so widespread and more and more people are working remotely.
