As I was getting prepared to teach a graduate class on Ethics in IT, I was reminded—again—about the incredible power and vulnerabilities of AI-based decision making. With more frequency than I’d like, I see the phrase “AI Ethics,” and am quickly reminded that AI, in and of itself, has no ethics. There is really no such thing as “AI Ethics.” In fact, AI is merely a process (or, more accurately a series of processes) that are used to guide decision making.

In early January 2022, the terms and obligations of both Kari’s Law and RAY BAUM’S Act became enforceable federal law. And as traditional POTS lines are slowly going the way of the dodo bird (see Phil Edholm's recent piece on No Jitter, Good Old POTS is Going Away.

Mitel made quite a splash recently when it announced that RingCentral will become its exclusive UCaaS partner. Under the terms of the agreement, Mitel’s UCaaS offering will move to RingCentral’s Message Video Phone (MVP). This gives Mitel’s customer base of 35 million an easy path to a cloud phone system. Mitel will continue to support but will stop selling its MiCloud Connect offering. In addition, RingCentral acquired Mitel’s CloudLink technology to deeply integrate Mitel’s platforms with RingCentral’s MVP solution.
