Now that the hurricane that was the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launches has blown out of town, other pieces of news are starting to pop up on the mobile device front along with a surprising announcement from AT&T Wireless. Rather than handling them as a string of short pieces, it seemed more appropriate to bundle the whole lot together.
We've certainly seen a lot of change in the mobile device management field over the past few years, and VMWare added to that yesterday when it announced it would be acquiring the self-proclaimed market leader AirWatch for about $1.54 billion. The AirWatch team will remain in place led by chief executive officer John Marshall and will become part of VMware's End-User Computing group, led by Sanjay Poonen, EVP and GM.
Motorola Solutions MSP (Mobility Services Platform) and AirBEAM solutions have returned, according to AirWatch. The latter is updating its research and development team to continue product improvements, and thereby making the life of the solutions much longer; this will offer customers a smoother and more comfortable path to the AirWatch platform on their timeline.
Motorola Solutions MSP and AirBEAM was acquired by Airwatch in June of this year.
