As the internet extends to more places, farther and faster connections to applications demand smarter technology. At the Ultra-broadband Forum Conference in Frankfurt, Germany, I saw first-hand how Huawei is accelerating broadband to new frontiers. One of the many technologies seen is streaming video. Its a must-have in desk, cloud and mobile applications along with multi-media video conferencing, video messaging, as well as live entertainment and sporting events and emerging IoT-internet of things, whatever that may be.

Such a boring but essential topic: Plain Old Telephone Service, or POTS for short. Very recently we have begun to see a trend in POTS line costs that are unprecedented. In some areas of California, costs for POTS have risen by 5x in the last 24+ months; in the Midwest, at least double; in the Northeast at least 50%. Something has to be done - the sheer price point alone will force an enterprise to reconsider POTS.

Why the necessity for POTS (traditionally)? POTS is very useful for any of the following applications:

Collaboration Boardom

I grew up in a home with a blackboard. I remember its key role in my learning the home phone number. It was still there when I moved out and probably still is.

Manufacturing of blackboards in the U.S. began in the 1840s. I'm sure the process has changed, but how we use these boards has seen very little change. Green colored boards appeared in the 1960s followed soon after by dry-erase whiteboards.

These types of traditional boards are indeed collaboration devices. They are ubiquitous in classrooms, meeting rooms, and in many homes here and abroad.
