The Future of Cloud Services

There is still quite a bit of interest in cloud services, and still no small demand for them. Due to this, there's been a rush by all manner of service providers, both old and new, to provide cloud offerings to hungry customers. Indeed, of the roughly 20,000 North American service providers, just about 20 percent of these offer cloud services at this time, and this number is expected to grow sharply over the next few years.

Meeting with Spoken CEO Howard Lee

At ITEXPO in Miami last week I had the opportunity to sit down with Howard Lee, the CEO of Spoken. We talked about the current Spoken business, which is focused on Cloud Contact Centers, IVR, and other key components of the custom interaction experience. Spoken has done two key things, creating a cloud/virtualized contact center using Avaya and Cisco, and focusing on improving the IVR/automated experience through their Smart IVR technology.

Look Beyond Gartner for SMB UCaaS and Hosted VoIP

At the recent ITExpo in Las Vegas, one thing that surprised me was the number of hosted VoIP and UCaaS Service Providers in the exhibit hall and I am sure there will be many more at the upcoming Channel Partners Conference in Chicago. Most of them I had never heard of and they all appeared to be pursuing channel partner programs of their own. Their primary channel is the traditional telecom agent, but they all are pursuing the IT VAR channel, as well, with the two channels converging.
