The CTO at Rackspace, John Engates, is calling out its competitor in the cloud space, Amazon Web Services, over the inflation of the value of discounts on dedicated EC2 instances which were announced earlier in the month.
Engates noted that AWS lowered the prices on EC2 instances by around 80 percent, yet it still cost more on a total-cost-for-performance basis than true dedicated servers, such as the ones which are offered by Rackspace.
A global network of OpenStack-powered public clouds for large service providers and carrier customers has now been planned by San Antonio, Texas-based Rackspace. This move will compete directly with Amazon's strong public cloud move, and Rackspace intends to create and run this new global network.
It has been announced that Rackspace has become a Platinum level partner in the Hosting Partner Program at Magento. The announcement was made at the Magento Imagine Conference, and it is expected that the partnership will enable both companies to build and provide ecommerce solutions and entry into new markets to dedicated and open hybrid cloud customers.
