Partnering in Pencil

It is hard for any one firm to boil the oceans, that's where partnerships play. In these disruptive times partnering is not what it used to be. It seems that every industry is undergoing some degree of transformation, and as it does so partners become competitors. We now commonly use terms like "co-opetition" and "frenemies."

Complete Cloud Package from Red Hat

Next month a complete cloud platform package will be available from Red Hat. This will include the vendor's Linux operating system, virtualization technology and hybrid cloud management tools.

The new offering will rival vCloud Suite from VMware, and increase competition between those software vendors. Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization software already competes directly with VMware's flagship vSphere virtualization product.

Channel Opportunities for Red Hat Partners

It is expected that channel partners of Red Hat will have greater opportunities this year as the company is broadening it channel focus. This is because Red Hat's main route to market is channel partners.

The vice president of Red Hat's North America channel sales and development, Roger Egan, has stated that the channel is the only means through which the company can grow: "In order to deliver solutions to the market place, we really have to work together."
