Tablet computers have certainly been one of the hottest topics in enterprise computing since the introduction of the Apple iPad in 2010, and now everyone involved with UC is trying to get a piece of the action. While jumping on the bandwagon has always been great sport in the IT field, the value proposition must be valid, the user experience must be acceptable (or "awesome"), and the overall environment must be in sync with user expectations regarding the how, where, and why users are adopting this technology.

Mobility delivered some big surprises in 2010. Those would include the first 4G smartphones, the launch of LTE-based 4G network service from Verizon, a phenomenal growth spurt for Android, and most importantly, the introduction of the tablet as the new mobile computing platform. That's a lot to digest, and I think that 2011 will be remembered as a year where we begin to see the mobile world for the next decade beginning to take shape.

At the Blackberry Developer Conference, DEVCON 2010, Research in Motion (RIM) made several announcements, unveiling the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and associated OS, as well as introducing the BlackBerry Enterprise Application Middleware development platform.
