This week Cisco presented their semi-annual UC update, and given how much UC is proliferating lately, it was a good opportunity to hear their latest thinking. While titled a "UC update," it was clear from the start that collaboration was the focus, for which UC plays a fairly minor role. This may not be what UCStrategies readers want to hear, but Cisco has enough market presence to do things their way and put their own stamp on how UC evolves.

UNIVERGE360 and NEC Integration Services Combine for Applications Success

NEC believes that real value can be created by enabling businesses "to fully integrate employee roles with automated business processes, resulting in a unified organization." What's more, NEC has been taking action to make this possible.

At the UCStrategies UC Summit held recently in beautiful La Jolla, CA, resellers and system integrators (now known as "Solution Integrators"), end-user consultants, and a handful of vendors had a chance to learn from each other about how to succeed in Unified Communications. I had a chance to be on the locknote panel to discuss what I thought were the highlights of the conference. Here are my key takeaways, in no particular order:

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a Beatles fan(atic), so of course I had to use the Come Together line to describe the newly-transformed Genesys and Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) Enterprise Group. At the beautiful Rosewood Sand Hill Resort in Menlo Park, CA, a group of analysts got to hear from Genesys/Alcatel-Lucent about the transformation taking place in the organization, and how these groups have come together. (And I'd be remiss if I didn't thank and give kudos to Rob Hilsen, David Radoff, and Joe Heinen for putting on one of the better analyst events).
