As we move through 2015, I thought it was good time to reflect on where our industry is going and how we think of the services we provide. I thought it was a good time to focus on the higher level view of products and services that enhance Communications and Collaboration. While UC has been a traditional name given to this space, I think it is time to move to a new name and concept, and, I feel BCC or (Business Communications and Collaboration) is a good descriptor for these next generation capabilities.

The tools available for enterprise conferencing have significantly grown and now routinely include not only voice and video but also collaboration and co-browsing.

Acquisition Extends Prognosis' Capabilities to Include Next Generation Testing of Unified Communications and Contact Centers

IR is pleased to announce the acquisition of IQ Services, a leader in unified communications & collaboration (UC&C) and contact center performance testing.

The term "unified communications" emerged in the mid-1990s, when messaging and real-time communications began to combine. The vision of an all-integrated and unified communications system was appealing.

Today, 20 years later, we are looking at an industry in rapid fragmentation. SIP, the standard intended to unify it all is tumbling into legacy. PBXs are still PBXs and the evolution of these platforms to deliver a multitude of services has not happened, or at least customers have hesitated to buy all the different service add-ons the PBX vendors made available on their platforms.

Enterprise Connect 2015 (EC'15), Orlando, Florida, March 16 - 19, 2015 is going to be very interesting this year, and our UC Experts will be involved in almost all of the leading UC and UC-related sessions. If you see video as important for successful collaboration and negotiation, you almost certainly believe it is important to have easy video connectivity with customers and with partner organizations outside your enterprise firewall. The uses are numerous, ranging from complex or intense sessions for projects or designs or negotiations to something as simple as staying in close touch on a personal basis.

I know that CES is predominantly a consumer event, but I think it shows what is coming for those of us in enterprise. To see how the technology from CES would impact us, I ventured into the world of 4K televisions, drones, robots, 3D printers, wearable, smart cars, and all other things technical and weird to see what I could find. Yes, I went to CES in Las Vegas looking for UC products and impacts.
