“SRT Hub is the easiest way for broadcasters to deal with the unpredictable nature of today’s breaking news events,” said Mahmoud J. Al-Daccak, EVP Product Development & CTO, Haivision. “By spinning up SRT streams from anywhere in the world and integrating them into their current workflows, broadcasters can flexibly transport live contribution feeds from news and event locations to production centers across the globe. We designed SRT Hub to help broadcasters get great quality content to air faster while benefiting from the efficiency, scalability, and unparalleled access offered by Microsoft Azure.”

Haivision, a leader in video streaming solutions, today announced that Haivision SRT Hub is now available for preview and will be featured prominently in demonstrations throughout the IBC2019 show in Amsterdam.

The new cloud service, offering intelligent cloud media routing across the Microsoft Azure network provides broadcasters with a secure and reliable solution for transporting live video globally for contribution, production, and distribution workflows.

Powered by the SRT protocol and Azure, SRT Hub leverages the internet and Azure containers to intelligently route media across the Azure backbone between any of the 54 Azure regions located worldwide. Furthermore, SRT Hub also takes advantage of the Microsoft IoT framework for discovery, provisioning, and communication with intelligent paired edge devices such as video encoders and video gateways, including the Haivision Makito X and Haivision SRT Gateway.

NECF Corporation, who coordinates sharing of under-utilized broadcast resources and manpower to make live distributed production a reality, has been beta testing SRT Hub to route live content feeds to their customers. “SRT Hub provides NECF’s marketplace a cost-effective option for transporting live video from events to major broadcast facilities and vendors worldwide, as needed, with scalability, security, and reliability,” said Joseph Maar, CEO of NECF. “It’s a perfect tool to add to our marketplace clients, as it provides the flexibility we need to quickly make high-quality live content available to crews, broadcasters and vendors wherever they are located. It’s perfectly aligned with our business model.”

Along with the announcement of preview availability, Haivision is announcing the availability of the SRT Hub Software Developer’s Kit (SDK). In addition to intelligent cloud media routing, SRT Hub is designed to connect the vast array of disparate broadcast production ecosystem components into integrated cloud workflows, and the new SDK gives developers a way of extending SRT Hub capabilities with their own third-party solutions. Integrated components, called Hublets, provide input to, and output from, the SRT Hub cloud, and can further extend SRT Hub with processing capabilities that run directly in the cloud to modify live or file-based routed content. Microsoft, Avid, Telestream, Wowza Media Systems, Cinegy, LightFlow by Epic Labs, and Haivision have developed Hublets that are available for use with SRT Hub and will be demonstrated at IBC 2019.

Sudheer Sirivara, General Manager for Azure Media at Microsoft Corp. said, “SRT Hub is an attractive solution for media routing as well as being a showcase for combining the value-add capabilities of diverse broadcast partners. Solutions to broadcast challenges will almost always rely on a combined ‘best in class’ integration across partners. SRT Hub helps bring together cloud solutions from multiple partners into a unified, connected broadcast workflow all running on Microsoft Azure.”
